Wild Pigs Are a Problem. Hunting Isn’t the Answer.

August 27th, 2026

Hunting represents a way of life, a valued food source, and a pastime handed down through generations. For several species, hunting removes nuisances from the landscape. However, when it comes to wild pigs, hunting only spreads the nuisance over a greater distance.

Conventional hunting remains the least effective way to stop the spread of wild pigs. It disperses wild pig populations over broader areas, changes movement patterns, and undermines trapping efforts. Squeal on Pigs Manitoba works to eliminate wild pigs through population surveillance and corral trapping, which captures whole groups.

Public reporting is the most effective tool. Recognizing the signs of wild pigs, where they are and have been, allows field technicians to work with landowners to place traps, deploy trail cameras, and utilize drone surveillance to remove more pigs from the landscape.
